Petflation 2025 – August Update: Slows to +2.5% vs Last Year
The National CPI rose to 2.9% from 2.7% but Petflation slowed to 2.5% from 2.6%. August was a mixed and complex month!

After a May>Jun pause, progress in YOY lifts restarted in July.
July was much better than expected. 3 Big Groups and 5 channels had above avg YOY lifts!
Prices rose for all segments from June and Petflation jumped up to 2.6%, the highest rate iin 2025.
The slow progress has paused in May>Jun, but Ytd most channels are doing better than Y/E 2024.
As expected, $ales dropped from May, but much more than avg. YOY sales vs Jun 24 for Relevant Retail were +3.9%, -17.5% below avg.

Total Petflation slowed from 2.2% to 2.1% but all segments but Supplies had increases.
New Products and Exhibitors are even more important and OEM/Private Label continues to grow!
Retail $ rose from April to a new May record but the YOY sales change vs 2024 was much worse!
